"Environmental justice is the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies." 

There are hundreds of organizations working to bring environmental justice to communities. Below is a list of organizations that belong to the Environmental Justice Community and their mission statements. 

To advance healthy air & environmental justice in the greater-Birmingham area through education, advocacy, and organizing. We envision a healthy, just, and sustainable Alabama for everyone.

ACAT believes that everyone has a right to know about the health and environmental hazards of chemicals that are present in our air, water, and soil, as well as in foods. ACAT recognizes that people of color and the poor are disproportionately harmed by the siting and toxic releases from military and industrial facilities, ACAT seeks to remedy this through community-based research and advocacy.

The Global Institute of Sustainability and Innovation is the hub of Arizona State University’s sustainability research initiatives. The institute advances research and business practices for an urbanizing world. 

The mission of the Sierra Club is to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

EDRA’s purpose is to advance and disseminate research, teaching, and practice toward improving an understanding of the relationships among people, their built environments, and natural eco-systems.

Green Action mobilizes community power to win victories that change government and corporate policies and practices to protect health and to promote environmental, social and economic justice.

The mission of CBE is to build people’s power in California’s communities of color and low income communities to achieve environmental health and justice by preventing and reducing pollution and building green, healthy and sustainable communities and environments.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a non-profit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change. 

Using community organizing, expert referrals, conferences and information guides, Pesticide Watch Education Fund helps community groups wage effective campaigns to force stubborn polluters and unresponsive bureaucracies to protect the health and safety of your community.

PODER’s mission is to organize with Latino immigrant families and youth to put into practice people-powered solutions that are locally based, community led and environmentally just. We nurture everyday people’s leadership, regenerate culture, and build community power.

Food & Water Watch mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold & uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time. 

New Urbanism is a movement united around the belief that our physical environment has a direct impact on our chances for happy, prosperous lives. New Urbanists believe that well-designed cities, towns, neighborhoods, and public places help create community: healthy places for people and businesses to thrive and prosper. 

Climate Justice Alliance was formed to create a new center of gravity in the climate movement by uniting frontline communities and organizations into a formidable force. Our translocal organizing strategy and mobilizing capacity is building a Just Transition away from extractive systems of production, consumption and political oppression, and towards resilient, regenerative and equitable economies.
